Law Tactical Folder Adapter
The LAW Tactical Folding Stock Adapter (often called the “LAW folder”) is a bolt-on receiver extension that replaces a standard AR-style buffer-tube mounting block and adds a hinge so the buttstock or brace can fold to the side. It was designed to let AR-pattern rifles and pistols be carried and stored in a much more compact form while preserving the rifle’s original buffer/recoil system and functionality when unfolded.
Main LAW Tactical product families / versions
-
Gen 1 / Gen 2 / Gen 3 (AR-15): iterative improvements in fit, finish and reliability. The Gen 3 is the most common current AR-15 adapter.Gen 3-M / Gen 3-HK / AR-10 / M110 kits: platform-specific adapters for larger receivers (AR-10, HK417-style) or for users who want a Model-specific fit/finish and materials (e.g., steel for high-stress platforms).
-
ARIC (AR Internal Carrier): a drop-in BCG/recoil system made by LAW Tactical that, when used with their folder, allows the rifle to be fired repeatedly while folded (addresses one of the folder’s original limitations). The ARIC replaces the standard bolt carrier, recoil spring and buffer.
How it works (simple)
-
Remove the factory receiver extension flange that secures the buffer tube to the receiver.
-
Install the LAW adapter to the receiver; it provides a hinged mount point.
-
Reinstall your buffer tube and stock/brace to the adapter.
-
The adapter locks the buffer tube solid for shooting when unfolded; pressing the release allows the tube to fold to the side for storage/transport.
Compatibility — what platforms and parts it works with
-
AR-15 (5.56/.223) and many direct-impingement or piston AR variants: works with mil-spec or commercial buffer tubes and most stocks/braces.
-
AR-10 / .308 platforms: LAW offers AR-10 / M110 specific adapters and some M-marked versions designed for larger receiver extensions and heavier carriers. Confirm the specific SKU for AR-10 compatibility.
-
HK-style platforms: LAW sells HK-specific adapters (Gen 3HK) for MR762/HK417/G28 platforms.
-
Braces & stocks: fits A2/carbine/mil-spec/commercial tubes and most modern adjustable stocks and many stabilizing braces — confirm geometry before buying.
Installation & setup — key points (overview)
-
Read the manufacturer instructions and watch the official install video first. LAW provides documentation and videos for Gen 3 installs.
-
Use correct torque and secure set screws (flange set screw) per instructions; the hinge must be firmly secured to the receiver.
-
After installation, function-check: folded/unfolded lock, buffer tube alignment, and safe cycling with the specific bolt carrier you use. Some carriers and springs interact differently — test live-fire for reliability.
-
Consider LAW’s ARIC kit if you require the ability to fire repeatedly while folded; the stock adapter alone generally allows one chambered round to be fired when folded but is not designed for repeat firing while folded without the ARIC.
Practical pros and cons
Pros
-
Compacts an AR quickly for transport, storage, or tight-space use.
-
Maintains original buffer system — unlike some folding kits that require changes to the bolt carrier or buffer.Platform breadth — versions exist for AR-15, AR-10, and HK-pattern rifles.
Cons / caveats
-
Cost — genuine LAW folders are relatively expensive compared with cheap knock-offs; counterfeits and poor copies exist. Buy from reputable dealers.
-
May affect OAL measurements for pistols — adding the adapter can change how overall length is measured and could push a build into an NFA-regulated SBR configuration if you’re not careful (see legal notes below).
-
Some carriers/springs may need tuning — while advertised to work with DI or piston systems, real-world function testing is required.
