Grand Power Stribog SP9A1 Gen 2
The Grand Power Stribog SP9A1 Gen 2 is a 9mm direct blowback pistol, known for being a reliable and affordable pistol-caliber carbine (PCC). It features a non-reciprocating charging handle, an upgrade from the Gen 1 model, and comes with three 30-round curved magazines.
Known issues and considerations
- Recoil: While the dual-mass bolt helps mitigate it, the SP9A1 Gen 2’s direct blowback system produces more felt recoil and muzzle rise than the newer, roller-delayed SP9A3 model.
- Proprietary magazines: The Stribog uses proprietary magazines, which can be an issue for users with other platforms. Early versions of the magazines had issues with cracking feed lips, though this was largely corrected with newer, steel-reinforced and curved magazines. Some users still report feeding issues with certain types of ammunition, especially flat-nose rounds.
- Built-in pistol grip: The lower receiver’s integrated pistol grip is not replaceable. While ergonomic, this limits customization options compared to firearms that accept standard AR-15 grips.
- Trigger: The stock trigger is heavy and has some take-up and creep. While aftermarket triggers are available, some users consider it a drawback compared to other PCCs.
- Aftermarket parts: Although the aftermarket for the Stribog is growing, it is not as extensive as platforms like the CZ Scorpion.
